Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a WHOIS lookup?

WHOIS is a standard & publicly available data base that holds domain name registration and ownership details. The whois server is maintained by the sponsoring domain name registry which chooses what data to show (or hide) from the public database. Some common data that is found in the .ae domain name whois search is the name of the domain name registrar (where the name was registered), the name of the registrant (legal owner of the domain) and the company name of the registrar (if any). In addition to this, the whois also displayes the domain name server information (DNS).

  • What is the registration/expiry date of the .ae domain name?

The .ae cctld whois service does not display the registration, renewal & expiry dates of the domain names. If you are the owner of the domain name, you can find out this data in the control panel of your domain name registrar (in your AEserver client area if your domain name is registered with us).

  • How can I know if the .ae domain name is expired?

The line "status" in the whois response shows as "OK" for domain names that are registered and linked to a hosting server. However the status of "Expired Hold" appears when a name has expired. The domain name will remain in this state for upto 30 calendar days. The domain name can be renewed or transfered during this time. However it will not serve any website visitors or email traffic in this state.

  • What is the life cycle of a .ae domain name?

The domain name can be registered/renewed for 1,2,3,4 & 5 years. When a domain name is expired, it will stay expired for 30 days. If it is not renewed within this grade period, it will go into the "Expired Pending Purge" state during which it can no longer be renewed and will be deleted within another 1-3 days.
